Matthew is an experienced sports industry leader, with more than 20 years’ experience in junior and community sport. This includes previous roles as CEO of Equestrian Victoria and Calisthenics Victoria.

His leadership is characterised by a commitment to stakeholder engagement and communication, strong fiscal management and good governance and his experience is underpinned by qualifications including an MBA from La Trobe University Melbourne, and a business degree majoring in Sport Management from Massey University, New Zealand.

From our first meeting with Matthew, we felt a strong alignment of values. He demonstrated to the Board a deep understanding of the opportunities and issues in community sport and exhibited an understanding for the challenges faced by clubs and volunteers.

Matthew has already commenced with the SMJFL and will be introducing himself to the SMJFL community over the next few weeks.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Interim CEO Cam Watts and the whole SMJFL executive for their contributions whilst the CEO recruitment process took place. As always, the team approached this period with enthusiasm and professionalism.

I’d also like to thank SMJFL partner Options Consulting Group, who managed an extremely comprehensive recruitment process and we recommend John Gilbert, Rupert Condon and the Options Consulting Group team to anyone in the SMJFL community looking to recruit in 2022.

We wish Matthew all the best as SMJFL CEO and look forward to Matthew and the SMJFL executive delivering on our Mission to continue to be the industry leader in the administration and delivery of junior sport whilst positively contributing to the community.
