The AFL’s coach accreditation system uses a points-based approach to help coaches progress through five levels of:

Registered: <90 points (NOTE: Coaches that do not reach registered accredited cannot coach in 2025)

Registered Accredited: 90 points

Bronze: 100 points

Silver: 200 points

Gold: 400 points

Coaches can earn points and new accreditations by actively participating in a variety of learning activities. These activities include but are not limited to:

  • Online Modules: Structured courses and learning available on the AFL LMS.
  • Face-to-Face Workshops: Interactive, facilitator-led sessions.
  • Demonstrations and Observations: Watching and analysing coaching on game day and/or training.
  • Self-Directed Learning: Independent learning of coaching related topics
  • Practical Coaching: Hands-on coaching practice

Different learning elements within the framework have varying points based on their complexity, duration, and significance. Here’s how points are typically allocated:

  • Compliance Modules: 40 points
  • Essential Courses: 50 points
  • Online Modules: 10 or 20 points depending on the complexity of the module.
  • Face-to-Face Workshops: Minimum of 50 points per workshop

IN-PERSON COACHING SESSIONS FOR NEW COACHES

The SMJFL has been able to lock in some in-person coach development sessions. Most of the dates have been confirmed. Unless otherwise stated, these in-person coaching sessions are assumed to be worth a minimum 50 coaching points, to be allocated towards your coaching accreditation. It is important to note that all coaches should be registered on the coaching portal before attending in-person coaching sessions. Failure to do so may result in points not counting towards your accreditation.

Coach Inductions

The SMJFL has locked in two Coach Induction sessions to be hosted at RSEA Park. These sessions will run for approximately two hours and will consist of both practical and sit down sessions run by an AFL Victoria coach developer. These sessions will be hosted on:
